Bathroom Remodel Cost in Tooele County

Upterra Builders · March 6, 2026

Bathrooms are smaller than kitchens but they are dense. There is plumbing, tile, waterproofing, and ventilation packed into a tiny footprint, which is why the per-square-foot cost is actually higher than most other rooms. Here is what bathroom remodels really run in Tooele County.

Guest or Hall Bath: $8,000 to $18,000

A standard hall or guest bathroom in the same footprint, with new tile, a new vanity, toilet, tub or shower, fixtures, lighting, and paint, lands in this range. Keep the layout the same and you stay near the bottom. Move the toilet or tub to a new spot and you pay for new drain and supply lines, which pushes you up.

Primary Bathroom: $18,000 to $35,000+

The primary suite is where people spend, and rightly so. A larger footprint, a custom tile shower, a freestanding tub, a double vanity, and heated floors add up:

The big cost drivers in a primary are the tile shower (a full custom walk-in with a bench, niche, and glass runs $6,000 to $12,000 on its own), the vanity and counter, and any layout changes.

Tub-to-Shower Conversions

This is one of our most requested jobs, especially from folks who want to age in place or who never use the tub. Pulling an old tub and building a proper walk-in tile shower with a glass door runs $7,000 to $14,000 depending on size, tile choice, and whether we keep the plumbing in place. A prefab acrylic shower surround costs less, around $4,500 to $7,000, but a tile shower looks and lasts far better.

One note on our Utah winters and older homes: if we open a wall on an exterior bathroom in an Old Tooele house and find no insulation, we insulate while we are in there. It is cheap when the wall is open and it keeps that bathroom warm.

Where the Money Goes

In a bathroom, labor is a bigger share than in most rooms because tile and waterproofing are slow, skilled work. A rough split on a full bath:

Waterproofing is the part you never see and the part that matters most. A shower built without a proper membrane and pan will leak and rot the framing. We build them to last, which is why our showers cost more than a weekend flip job.

Permits and Timeline

Any remodel that touches plumbing or electrical needs a permit through the Tooele County Building Department, usually $200 to $600 for a bathroom. A hall bath runs 2 to 4 weeks. A primary suite runs 4 to 7 weeks. Tile and glass lead times can stretch that, so we order those early.

Our Honest Advice

If it is a guest bath nobody loves, do a clean same-layout remodel and do not overspend. If it is your primary and you use it every morning, spend on the shower and the vanity, because those are the two things you touch daily. Skip the trendy stuff that dates fast and put the money into good tile and solid waterproofing.
